Meet the Founder

BougieMahj began with a feeling I know well: the thrill of making something with my own hands. I’ve always loved creating. And when I learned American Mahjong, I was immediately drawn to the tactile and visual beauty of the game—the feel and sound of the tiles, the stunning mats, and the whole experience of gathering around the table. I kept thinking, I could make beautiful tiles and mats too! I think I can, I think I can.

Creativity has always been part of my life. My mother and I shared a love of art and the special companionship that came from creating together. Sewing, jewelry making, color, design, and the joy of turning an idea into something tangible have been with me for as long as I can remember.

I also happen to enjoy games—the laughter, the friendly competition, the traditions, and the way a table full of people can turn an ordinary afternoon into something memorable. But when Mahjong entered my life, something truly clicked. It wasn’t just another game for me. It was the spark that brought so many of my passions together.

I was captivated by the beauty and sound of tiles clinking across the mat, the strategy, the rituals, the tablescapes, and the connection created around the table. Mahjong didn’t just deepen my appreciation for games; it opened up a whole new creative world. I started imagining all the ways the experience could feel even more beautiful, personal, and joyful.
